## What are mentions?
Mentions are automatic tracking of where entities appear in your manuscript. Every time you reference a character, location, or other entity by name (including aliases), Mythos records it.

Mention tracking helps you verify continuity, balance character screen time, ensure important locations appear appropriately, and identify underused story elements.

**Available in:** Novel Workspace only

## How mentions work
Mythos scans your manuscript for entity names and aliases, then records:

- **Document** - Which chapter or scene the mention appears in
- **Context** - The surrounding text where the entity is mentioned
- **Frequency** - How many times the entity appears

Mentions update automatically as you write. No manual tagging required.

---

## Viewing mentions
**To view mentions for an entity:**
Open entity profile → Mentions tab → See list of all appearances

**In the Mythos sidebar:**
Open AI sidebar → Mythos tab → See entities in current document

---

## Aliases and mentions
Mythos tracks mentions of all names and aliases you've added to an entity.

**Example:** If "John Doe" has aliases "Johnny" and "The Detective," Mythos tracks all three names as mentions of the same entity.

Tip: Always add aliases (nicknames, titles, descriptors) to entities so Mythos can track all references accurately.
